Refurbishment of Slicesgate Footbridge, Southend Road, Billericay

From Monday 10 August refurbishment works will begin on Slicesgate Footbridge located on Southend Road in Billericay.

This will involve:

• Pressure washing the structure to remove loose paint and prepare the steel for repainting

• Minor welding repairs to the steelwork

• Repainting of the structure

• Removal and replacement of the existing non-slip surfacing throughout the bridge

The footbridge will be closed to pedestrians throughout the works. A signed diversion will direct pedestrians to the alternative crossing point at the zebra crossing outside the Kings Head Public House, located southeast of the footbridge.

For most of the programme, works will be carried out under temporary traffic lights during the daytime however a limited number of overnight road closures will be necessary between 7pm and 5am. Confirmed dates will be advertised nearer the time on local signage and our social media channels. During the road closures emergency vehicles and bus operators will be permitted to pass through the closure, however all other vehicles will be required to following a signed diversion.

These works are due to complete by the end of September 2026.
